Marriage Equality in Australia
Marriage equality has applied across Australia since December 2017. The law recognises marriage as the union of two people to the exclusion of all others, voluntarily entered into for life.
What That Means in Practice
For couples marrying in Adelaide:
- the same legal rules apply to everyone
- the same paperwork applies to everyone
- the same legal status applies after marriage
Our Position
The Adelaide Marriage Office welcomes all couples equally and provides the same straightforward pathway for paperwork-only, registry-style, and simple marriage services.
